Dewar Football Seniors Make Big Moves On and Off the Field
Dewar Football Seniors Make Big Moves On and Off the Field
Dewar, OK — June 2025
Three senior football players from Dewar High School are closing out their high school careers with a series of impressive achievements, both athletically and academically, while preparing for bright futures ahead.
Damian Smith, a dedicated member of the Dewar football program since the first grade, has officially accepted an offer to play college football at McPherson College in Kansas. Smith plans to major in engineering and continue excelling both on the field and in the classroom. At the recent OEMFCA Banquet, he was honored with a $1,000 scholarship from the Oklahoma Eight-Man Coaches Association and the Oklahoma Electric Cooperatives—an award recognizing not only athletic ability but academic promise and community involvement.
Naea Corbin, another longtime Dewar standout, was named Class B1 Defensive Player of the Year. Corbin has committed to serving his country by joining the National Guard as a medic and is set to leave for training camp this October. Known for his toughness on the field and strong sense of duty off it, Corbin has been a key leader for the team throughout his football journey that began in early childhood.
Keelan Berry is already taking steps toward a career in the utility industry. Enrolled at OSU Institute of Technology, Berry is working toward his associate degree to become a lineman while also holding down full-time employment. His work ethic has made him a respected presence among teammates and coaches alike.
In addition to their accomplishments in football, all three seniors earned state titles in powerlifting in both 2024 and 2025, solidifying their status as multi-sport athletes with championship pedigree.
Dewar’s success this season was also shaped by outstanding coaching. Head Coach Josh Been, who has since stepped away from coaching, was named Coach of the Year, and Assistant Coach Jake Stapp received Assistant Coach of the Year honors. The absence of Coach Been— a longtime mentor and trusted advisor — was deeply felt by the team and their families during this week’s celebrations. Many were hoping for a reunion to mark the end of such a memorable chapter.
As they prepare for the next chapter, Damian, Naea, and Keelan exemplify the spirit of hard work, resilience, and excellence—on the field, in the weight room, and beyond. Their legacy will no doubt inspire the next generation of Dewar Dragons.
This Saturday night, June 21st, the three boys will have one final opportunity to take the field together as Dragons, representing Dewar one last time as they suit up for the White Team at the All-Star Game in Miami, Oklahoma, at 6:00 p.m. It will be a proud and emotional farewell for players, coaches, and the entire Dewar community. The game will be live streamed on skordle. Follow on Facebook for up to date information.
